If Bill Belichick can’t land a head coaching job, what other positions could he have with the Green Bay Packers?Belichick probably won’t be coaching anywhere in 2024. At least as a director. The Atlanta Falcons were the only team that showed interest in Belichick and invited him to several interviews. However, the Falcons chose Raheem Morris for the position. Two head coaching jobs remain: Seattle Seahawks and Washington Commanders. Belichick doesn’t appear to be a candidate for either opening.
The idea of the NFL going back to Belichick may seem unheard of, but here we are. In response to the lack of interest in Belichick, Kyle Maljean of WFRV Local 5 in Green Bay floated the idea of bringing in the legendary coach as the Packers’ defensive coordinator. It might sound funny to think about, but it’s actually quite funny. Yes, Belichick was once a defensive coordinator. But his last tour of duty was 25 years ago, when he was working for the New York Jets.Belichick has been the head coach since 2000, so it’s hard to imagine him giving it up and taking over as a coordinator. Belichick coached the New England Patriots from 2000 to 2023, but don’t forget he was also the team’s general manager.
Can you imagine Belichick going from head coach and general manager to defensive coordinator? Yes, it isn’t.The idea of Matt LaFleur being acquired by Belichick is absurd, and the idea that such an offer is even being made is silly. In 24 years with the Patriots, Belichick led the Patriots to a 333-178 record (including playoffs), six Super Bowl championships, nine Super Bowl appearances and 17 AFC East titles. With that resume, Bill Belichick is no longer an assistant.
