Just in: Shocking news on the future of Amari Cooper

The Cleveland Browns’ poor salary cap situation this offseason has led to speculation that the team may fire wide receiver Amari Cooper to save money.Cooper will receive a base salary of $20 million and a cap hit of $23.8 million next season. But Browns fans need not worry. According to Terry Pluto of Cleveland.com, it doesn’t look like Cooper is going anywhere.”I’ve heard from some fans and the media that the Browns may fire Amari Cooper due to salary cap restrictions,” Pluto wrote. “I checked with the best source in the NFL and the Browns have no plans to move on from Amari Cooper.

That means zero.”It doesn’t make sense to let Cooper go.Typically, a team will release a player if they feel he is not productive or if there is a suitable replacement on the roster. That won’t happen to Cooper. The 29-year-old is coming off a standout 2023 campaign in which he recorded 72 receptions for 1,250 yards and five touchdowns en route to his fifth Pro Bowl selection. Cleveland originally acquired Cooper from the Dallas Cowboys in March 2022. He also had an outstanding rookie season with the Browns, catching 78 passes for 1,160 yards and nine scores.

Cooper, who played college football at the University of Alabama, was selected fourth overall by the Oakland Raiders in the 2015 NFL Draft. He spent the first three and a half years of his career with the Raiders before being traded to the Cowboys midway through the 2018 campaign. Amari Cooper has had 1,000 yards in seven of his nine seasons.Cleveland lost to the Houston Texans 11-6 in the wild card round of last year’s playoffs.
