Pittsburgh Steelers continue their search for an additional head coach and have added three more names to their vacant positions. According to league sources, the team is interviewing Matt Baker, Mateo Cambui and Phil Matusch for multiple positions.
Baker will link up with new Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, who spent last season as a special assistant with the Atlanta Falcons. Prior to Atlanta, he began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Ole Miss in 2010, then served as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at John Carroll University, and nine years later at Western Michigan in 2019 as an analyst and QB coach.
The North Carolina graduate played quarterback in the NFL from 2006 to 2009, spending the last two seasons with the Buffalo Bills.Camboui is also from Atlanta and served as the offensive line coach in 2023. Prior to Smith and the Falcons, he was with the Denver Broncos as part of the Marlin Briscoe Coaching Scholarship (2021-2022). He helped scout and coach wide receivers. Matusch is the head strength and conditioning coach at Boston College.
The Steelers fell short on strength and conditioning and talked to several candidates for the opening. He has been at Boston College for four years. He spent six seasons as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Ohio State before helping the Eagles develop top NFL talent such as Zion Johnson and Zay Flowers. So far, the Steelers have interviewed six candidates for coaching staff positions. In addition to Baker, Kambui and Matusz, who met or are scheduled to meet the Los Angeles Chargers in Pittsburgh, play alongside Tom Arth, Tennessee Titans coach Charles London and New York Jets wide receivers coach Zach Azzani.
