The Green Bay Packers, sitting at 8-2, are gearing up for a crucial matchup against the Detroit Lions as they aim to stay in contention for the NFC North title. To keep their hopes alive, they need to split the season series by defeating the 11-1 Lions. However, the Packers will face this challenge shorthanded, with three key players ruled out: Jaire Alexander, Romeo Doubs, and Edgerrin Cooper, as reported by The Athletic’s Matt Schneidman.
Alexander, who was limited in practice earlier this week, was listed as a nonparticipant on Wednesday. Doubs, still in concussion protocol, participated on a limited basis throughout the week but remains unavailable. Cooper, sidelined since his injury, did not practice at all. Despite Alexander’s partial participation hinting at progress, the Packers appear cautious about rushing his return to avoid setbacks, as happened previously. Cooper, who earned his first career start against Jacksonville, had been a growing presence on defense before his injury.
The Lions will also be without key players, including starting tackle Taylor Decker and defensive lineman D.J. Reader. Reader has been a disruptive force this season with three sacks and eight quarterback hits. Detroit dominated Green Bay at Lambeau Field earlier this season, and the Packers are determined to turn the tables.
Green Bay has already suffered divisional losses to the 9-2 Minnesota Vikings and the Lions. To remain in contention for the NFC North title, the Packers must hand Detroit their second loss and improve to 2-2 in divisional play. Quarterback Jordan Love has been in excellent form recently and will need to deliver another strong performance, even without Doubs, to lead his team to victory.
