The Cleveland Browns wrapped up a disappointing 2024 NFL season with a 3-14 record, capped by a 35-10 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. This marked another challenging year for head coach Kevin Stefanski, whose overall record now stands at 40-44 after five seasons.
Despite earning two NFL Coach of the Year awards in 2020 and 2023, Stefanski has led the Browns to three losing seasons during his tenure. With the team regressing significantly this season, questions are swirling about whether Stefanski will remain at the helm in 2025.
Former Browns CEO Joe Banner shared his candid thoughts on Stefanski in a recent post on X (formerly Twitter). Banner wrote, “I think Stefanski is a good NFL HC, but not many teams would give a HC more time after not winning a playoff game in 5 years. Indicative of a lowered bar after a really rough history. He should definitely take back play calling for sure.”
Banner highlighted Stefanski’s lack of postseason success as a potential reason for the Browns to consider a coaching change. Since his arrival, Stefanski has led the Browns to just one playoff victory—a 2020 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers—which remains the franchise’s only postseason triumph since its 1999 re-establishment.
However, reports indicate that the Browns are likely to retain both Stefanski and general manager Andrew Berry for another season. Ownership appears committed to fostering stability within the organization, a quality enjoyed by their AFC North rivals.
Joe Banner, who served as the Browns CEO during the 2012 and 2013 seasons, appears skeptical of this approach, emphasizing the need for higher expectations as the team evaluates its future.
