Packers lose key player to injury for postseason

The Green Bay Packers have suffered a significant setback as they prepare to face the Philadelphia Eagles in the first round of the playoffs.

Wide receiver Christian Watson was carted off the field during the second quarter of the Packers’ 24-22 loss to the Chicago Bears on Sunday at Lambeau Field. Per Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, tests later confirmed Watson sustained a torn ACL along with other damage.

This injury rules Watson out for the postseason and leaves his availability for the 2025 season uncertain.

The Packers selected Watson with the 34th overall pick in 2022. Although he has yet to fully meet expectations, the North Dakota State alum appeared in 15 games this season, overcoming early career hamstring issues.

Watson tallied 620 receiving yards on just 29 catches this season, demonstrating his potential as a deep threat. He recorded two games with over 100 yards but failed to log a catch in the final two games of the regular season.

While Watson’s absence may not singularly determine the Packers’ playoff fate, his ability to stretch the field would have been an asset for quarterback Jordan Love in their postseason run.
