Detroit Lions Release Official Statement on the Departure of Veteran Linebacker in Free Agency

 

 

The Detroit Lions have announced the departure of veteran linebacker DeAndre Levy, who has opted to move on in free agency. Although Levy retired in 2017, his name has resurfaced amid speculation of a potential comeback, and the Lions have confirmed they will not retain his rights moving forward.  

 

“DeAndre Levy was one of the most dynamic and hardworking players to ever wear the Honolulu blue and silver,” said Lions General Manager.His leadership and dedication to the game left a lasting impact on this organization. We are incredibly grateful for everything he brought to the team and wish him nothing but success in his future endeavors.”  

 

Levy, who spent his entire NFL career with the Lions from 2009 to 2016, was known for his elite athleticism and ability to make game-changing plays. He recorded 12 interceptions, 3.5 sacks, and over 600 tackles during his time in Detroit.  

 

Despite stepping away from football due to injuries, Levy’s name continues to resonate with fans and analysts alike. His recent interest in returning to football has sparked discussions about his potential fit on other teams in the league.  

 

While Lions fans cherish the memories Levy created during his career, the organization is focused on building its future linebacker corps and strengthening its defense for the upcoming season.
