The Pittsburgh Steelers have released an official statement regarding the departure of former veteran linebacker James Harrison, who has decided to step away from professional football and will not seek further opportunities in free agency.
Harrison, who retired in 2018 after a decorated career, has continued to remain involved with the Steelers’ organization through mentorship and community efforts. Despite his formal retirement years ago, Harrison’s name recently surfaced in connection with potential team consultations, sparking speculation about a brief return to free agency. The Steelers have now confirmed that Harrison will maintain his retired status and focus on other endeavors.
“James Harrison will always be a part of the Steelers family,” said team President Art Rooney II. “While we acknowledge his tremendous contributions on the field, we’re even more proud of the impact he continues to make off the field. We wish him continued success in his post-football journey.”
Harrison, known for his relentless work ethic and iconic plays, including the record-setting 100-yard interception return during Super Bowl XLIII, remains a fan favorite in Pittsburgh. He expressed gratitude toward the organization and the fan base, saying, “The Steelers gave me everything, and I’ll always bleed black and gold.”
While Harrison’s free agency rumors have been laid to rest, his legacy as one of the most dominant linebackers in NFL history remains untouchable.
