Nick Chubb’s 2024 season came to an unfortunate end after he fractured his foot during a Week 15 game against the Kansas City Chiefs. This marked the second consecutive year Chubb faced a season-ending injury. Now, the Cleveland Browns’ star running back is set to enter free agency for the first time in his career, raising questions about his future with the team.
During his end-of-season press conference, Browns general manager Andrew Berry acknowledged the challenging nature of Chubb’s situation. While Berry didn’t provide a definitive answer, he left the possibility of a reunion open.
“It’s always tough when a cornerstone player’s contract expires,” Berry said. “This year is a bit different compared to last, as there’s less control on the team’s side. These are decisions we’ll have to work through in the coming weeks.”
Berry also expressed his unwavering respect and admiration for Chubb, both on and off the field.
“Everyone knows how much we value Nick—not just for his performance on the field but for who he is as a teammate and person,” he stated. “We love Nick. He’s a future Ring of Honor player for us. As for the immediate future, we’ll have to navigate those decisions in the weeks ahead.”
Chubb’s journey over the past two seasons has been difficult. After a severe knee injury in Week 2 of the 2023 season sidelined him for the rest of the year, Chubb spent months rehabbing before returning to the field in Week 7 of the 2024 season. He made an immediate impact, scoring a touchdown in his comeback game against the Cincinnati Bengals. However, just eight weeks later, his season was cut short again due to the foot injury. Fortunately, his recovery this offseason is expected to be less arduous than last year’s.
Chubb’s desire to remain with the Browns could influence his future with the team. As recently as last month, the 2018 second-round pick emphasized his loyalty to Cleveland, calling himself a “Brown for life” during a holiday fundraising event. He later elaborated on his commitment, saying, “I started here, and I’d like to finish here. Cleveland means a lot to me. Through all the ups and downs, I’m proud to have been drafted here.”
Whether the Browns can reach an agreement with Chubb for 2025 remains uncertain, but both sides appear interested in continuing their partnership. For fans, it’s difficult to imagine Chubb suiting up for another team.
