The Pittsburgh Steelers could soon face a significant shake-up in their front office as rumors swirl that assistant general manager Andy Weidl may be a top candidate for the Tennessee Titans’ vacant GM position. Weidl, who joined the Steelers in 2022 after helping build a Super Bowl-winning roster with the Philadelphia Eagles, is widely regarded as an elite talent evaluator and roster architect.
Weidl has worked closely with Steelers GM Omar Khan to revamp Pittsburgh’s roster, particularly focusing on strengthening the offensive line. However, his name has consistently surfaced as a potential candidate for general manager roles around the NFL.
The speculation intensified this week after the Tennessee Titans fired GM Ran Carthon following a disappointing 3-14 season. With the No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, the Titans’ GM position is considered highly desirable. According to ESPN’s Turron Davenport, the Titans are seeking a candidate with extensive scouting experience, a proven ability to evaluate talent, and a track record of helping build successful rosters—qualities that describe Weidl perfectly.
Chad Brinker, the Titans’ Vice President of Football Operations, detailed the ideal candidate, emphasizing the need for someone deeply committed to roster building, player evaluation, and long-term team development. Weidl’s experience and expertise align closely with this vision, making him a prime candidate.
While Weidl has only been with the Steelers for two years and may prefer to stay, the opportunity to lead a front office, coupled with the Titans’ draft capital and financial flexibility, could prove tempting.
If Weidl does leave, it would be a major blow to the Steelers. Replacing an executive of his caliber—someone instrumental in building a championship roster—would be a daunting task. Time will tell if the Titans officially pursue Weidl, but his name is likely to be a hot topic in the coming days.
