The Green Bay Packers may look to strengthen their secondary in 2025 after a challenging year for their pass defense. Ranking 15th in passing yards allowed with 3,959 in 2024, the Packers’ defensive struggles have been exacerbated by Jaire Alexander’s season-ending knee injury.
As they head into the offseason, speculation has arisen about the Packers targeting a top-tier cornerback. Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox recently listed potential free agent landing spots and highlighted New York Jets star DJ Reed as a strong candidate for Green Bay.
“DJ Reed may not receive the recognition he deserves entering free agency,” Knox explained. “Playing on a struggling Jets team, he’s often overshadowed by Sauce Gardner. However, the 28-year-old has been a standout starter since joining New York in 2022.”
Knox noted the Packers could view Reed as a dependable replacement for Eric Stokes, who is set to hit free agency. Additionally, former Jets head coach Robert Saleh, now a Packers offensive consultant, could influence the decision to pursue Reed.
Reed, whose three-year, $33 million contract with the Jets concludes this season, is expected to be one of the top cornerbacks on the market. With Green Bay in need of a defensive upgrade, acquiring Reed could be a logical move for their secondary overhaul.
