Steelers Quietly Closes Door on NFL Legend In Surprising Offseason Twist

The Pittsburgh Steelers are facing significant decisions about their quarterback situation heading into the 2025 season. As it stands, the team has just one quarterback under contract: Skylar Thompson, who was recently signed after spending time with the Miami Dolphins. However, questions loom about the futures of Russell Wilson, Justin Fields, and other potential quarterback options on the market.

One name that has generated considerable buzz is Aaron Rodgers. With Rodgers expected to part ways with the New York Jets, many speculate that the future Hall of Famer could be seeking a fresh start with a new team for what might be his final NFL season. The Steelers were floated as a potential landing spot, given Rodgers’ known admiration for Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin.

Despite the speculation, Steelers insider Gerry Dulac from the *Pittsburgh Post-Gazette* quickly dismissed the idea. According to Dulac, Pittsburgh has no interest in pursuing Rodgers this offseason.

“I can tell you it will not be Aaron Rodgers,” Dulac said confidently when discussing the Steelers’ quarterback plans.

Instead, Pittsburgh seems to be narrowing its focus to Wilson and Fields. Fields, who is believed to be the frontrunner, has been generating strong support as the likely Week 1 starter for 2025. Meanwhile, Wilson remains an alternative option if the Steelers decide to take a different direction.

As for Rodgers, he is expected to be one of the most sought-after quarterbacks in free agency. With limited options available in the draft and a short list of viable starting quarterbacks on the market, several teams are likely to make a strong push to sign him.

For now, it seems that the anticipated partnership between Rodgers and Tomlin will remain a distant dream. While the Steelers are charting their path with younger options like Fields, Rodgers will likely begin a new chapter with another franchise in 2025.
