**Former Steelers Running Back Qadree Ollison Signs with CFL’s BC Lions**
Qadree Ollison, a former Pittsburgh Steelers running back, has returned to professional football by signing with the BC Lions of the Canadian Football League (CFL). This move comes after Ollison spent a year away from the field and marks his first foray into the CFL. The Lions announced the signing on social media, offering Ollison a fresh opportunity to compete for playing time after five seasons in the NFL.
A 6-foot-1, 230-pound running back from Niagara Falls, New York, Ollison was initially selected in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons after a standout college career at the University of Pittsburgh (Pitt). He played three seasons in Atlanta, where he primarily served as a depth player. In 2022, Ollison joined the Dallas Cowboys, shuffling between the practice squad and active roster.
The Jacksonville Jaguars signed Ollison to a reserve/future contract ahead of the 2023 season, but he was waived during the final roster cuts in preseason. Following his release, the Pittsburgh Steelers signed him to their practice squad on September 2, 2023. Ollison was briefly elevated to the active roster for two games, playing primarily on special teams, before being released on December 11, 2023.
Ollison attempted to stay in the NFL, attending the New York Jets’ rookie minicamp on a tryout basis before the 2024 season. However, he did not secure a spot on the team and remained out of the league for the entire season.
During his five NFL seasons, Ollison recorded 44 carries for 158 rushing yards, averaging 3.6 yards per carry, and scored five touchdowns. He also contributed five receptions for 19 yards. Despite limited opportunities at the professional level, Ollison’s college career highlights his potential.
At Pitt, Ollison was a key player for the Panthers’ offense. After redshirting in 2014, he earned All-ACC honors in 2015 and 2018. Over four seasons, he amassed 2,859 rushing yards and 29 touchdowns on 529 carries, showcasing his ability to be a productive backfield option. As a senior in 2018, Ollison led Pitt with 1,213 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns, averaging an impressive 6.3 yards per carry. He also added 66 receiving yards on 11 catches that season.
Now joining the BC Lions, Ollison has a chance to revive his professional football career in Canada, where he may see more opportunities to contribute on the field. This signing reflects his perseverance and desire to remain in the game after a year of uncertainty.
