The University of Kentucky Wildcats have officially parted ways with reserve guard Marcus Reynolds following his early morning arrest, the program announced today.
Reynolds, a sophomore who saw limited playing time this season, was taken into custody around 3:00 AM in downtown Lexington. While authorities have yet to disclose full details, sources indicate the arrest was related to public intoxication and disorderly conduct outside a local bar.
In a statement, the Wildcats’ head coach addressed the situation:
“We expect our players to represent this program with integrity and discipline. After reviewing the circumstances, we have made the decision to dismiss Marcus Reynolds from the team effective immediately.”
Reynolds, who averaged 2.1 points per game in a reserve role, was not a major contributor on the court but was seen as a developing player in the program. His departure is unlikely to impact Kentucky’s tournament hopes but serves as a stark reminder of the program’s strict disciplinary standards.
The arrest has sparked reactions from fans and analysts, with some questioning whether the punishment was too severe for a lesser-known player. Reynolds and his legal team have yet to comment on the situation, while the university has assured full cooperation with law enforcement as the case develops.
