U.S. Olympian Lindsey Vonn Announces Devastating Personal Loss That’s Hitting Home Hard

Lindsey Vonn, the celebrated U.S. Olympic skier, is mourning the loss of her mother, Linda Anne Lund, who passed away on August 27, 2022, exactly one year after being diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

In a heartfelt Instagram post, Vonn expressed her gratitude for the time spent with her mother and relief that she is no longer suffering. She described Lund as “a shining light that will never fade” and shared that she will forever be inspired by her.

ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a neurodegenerative condition that destroys nerve cells, leading to loss of muscle control. There is currently no cure for ALS.

Vonn has been open about her mother’s influence on her life and career. In her memoir, she dedicated a passage to Lund, highlighting her mother’s perpetual positivity and resilience, which shaped Vonn both on and off the slopes.

In June 2022, during her induction into the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Hall of Fame, Vonn dedicated her speech to her mother, acknowledging her ongoing battle with ALS and crediting her for teaching Vonn about strength and character.

Vonn’s loss has deeply resonated with her, especially during significant occasions. On the first Mother’s Day following Lund’s passing, Vonn shared an emotional tribute, expressing how challenging the day was without her mother.

The skiing community and fans have extended their condolences to Vonn during this difficult time.
