The skiing world was left in shock this weekend as 24-year-old skiing sensation, Lena Hartmann, suffered a devastating crash during a downhill training run that may permanently alter the trajectory of her career.
Hartmann, widely considered a frontrunner for the upcoming World Championships, lost control on a sharp descent and was violently thrown off course at over 90 km/h. Emergency crews rushed to the scene as she lay motionless in the snow. She was airlifted to a nearby hospital, where doctors confirmed multiple fractures in her right leg, a torn ACL, and possible spinal trauma.
“This is the kind of injury that changes everything,” said team doctor Markus Keller. “We are doing everything we can to stabilize her, but the road to recovery will be long and uncertain.”
The accident comes just months after Hartmann’s record-breaking win in St. Anton, where she became the youngest skier to win three golds in one season. Her rapid rise and fearless style had made her a national icon and a favorite among fans worldwide.
Support poured in from across the globe, with fellow athletes and sports figures expressing heartbreak and solidarity. Olympic gold medalist Clara Voss tweeted, “Heartbroken for Lena. She’s a warrior, and if anyone can come back, it’s her.”
For now, her future on the slopes remains uncertain.
“This isn’t just a setback—it’s a turning point,” said her coach, Daniel Frey. “Whether or not she skis competitively again, she’s already proven she’s one of the greats.”
