Three separate skiing accidents in the Swiss Alps over the weekend have resulted in the deaths of two individuals and left another seriously injured, according to local authorities.
The tragic incidents occurred in the cantons of Valais and Graubünden, both popular destinations for winter sports enthusiasts.
In the first incident on Saturday, a 52-year-old French skier lost his life after falling into a crevasse while skiing off-piste near Zermatt. Emergency responders were quick to arrive but were unable to save the man due to the severity of his injuries.
Later the same day, in the Davos region, a 34-year-old Swiss woman was caught in an avalanche while skiing with a group of friends. Despite immediate rescue efforts, she succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
A third accident took place on Sunday in Verbier, where a 27-year-old German tourist sustained multiple injuries after colliding with a tree on a marked slope. He was airlifted to a nearby hospital and remains in serious but stable condition.
Swiss authorities are urging skiers to exercise extreme caution, particularly with changing weather conditions and increasing avalanche risks. Investigations into the accidents are ongoing.
