A British skier has tragically died following a “violent collision” on the slopes of the French Alps, authorities confirmed on Sunday.
The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon in the popular ski resort of Chamonix. According to local police, the skier, a man in his 30s, collided at high speed with another skier on a marked piste. Emergency services were quickly dispatched to the scene by helicopter, but despite their efforts, the victim succumbed to his injuries shortly after the crash.
The second individual involved in the collision, a skier of French nationality, was also injured and transported to a nearby hospital. His condition is currently stable.
An investigation has been launched to determine the exact circumstances of the accident. Preliminary reports suggest both skiers were descending rapidly when the collision took place, leading to a significant impact.
The British Embassy in Paris has been informed and is working to provide support to the victim’s family.
This tragic incident adds to a growing number of serious accidents in the Alps this season, raising concerns over safety on increasingly crowded slopes. Local authorities have urged all skiers to adhere strictly to speed limits and safety guidelines.
More updates will follow as the investigation progresses.
