Two skiers die after accidents on Graubünden slopes

Two tragic incidents occurred over the weekend in the Swiss canton of Graubünden, claiming the lives of two skiers on separate slopes.

Authorities confirmed that both victims, a 34-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman, died following accidents while skiing in off-piste areas. The first accident took place near the resort of Davos, where the man lost control on a steep descent and suffered fatal injuries. Emergency services were quick to respond but were unable to save him.

The second incident happened in the Flims-Laax area, where the woman was caught in a snow slide while skiing with a group of friends. Despite being pulled from the snow and receiving immediate medical attention, she later succumbed to her injuries at a nearby hospital.

Local police and mountain rescue teams are investigating both incidents and have reminded skiers to exercise extreme caution, especially when venturing off marked trails. Recent weather conditions, including fresh snowfall and fluctuating temperatures, have increased the risk of avalanches and unstable snowpacks.

Tourism authorities have extended their condolences to the victims’ families and urged visitors to follow safety guidelines and check daily avalanche warnings before heading onto the slopes.
