Duke Reacts to Major Mike Krzyzewski Announcement on Tuesday

Duke University and the broader basketball community are abuzz following a major announcement from Hall of Fame coach Mike Krzyzewski on Tuesday. The legendary former head coach, affectionately known as “Coach K,” revealed his decision to return to Duke in a new capacity—as Special Advisor to Athletics and Leadership Development.

Coach K’s return marks a significant moment for the university, nearly three years after his retirement from coaching in 2022. In his new role, Krzyzewski will mentor student-athletes, guide leadership initiatives, and support Duke’s athletic programs with his decades of experience and vision.

Duke President Vincent Price expressed excitement about the announcement: “Coach K’s impact on Duke goes far beyond the basketball court. We are thrilled to welcome him back in a role that will help shape the next generation of leaders.”

Current Duke Men’s Basketball Head Coach Jon Scheyer, a former player under Krzyzewski, also shared his thoughts: “Having Coach K back in the building, offering his insights and leadership, is an incredible gift for all of us.”

The announcement has sparked widespread praise from alumni, fans, and sports commentators who see it as a reaffirmation of Duke’s commitment to excellence and leadership development.
