ESPN college football analyst Paul Finebaum has stirred controversy yet again, this time taking aim at the Kentucky Wildcats’ prospects for the upcoming season. During a recent segment on his popular SEC Network show, Finebaum predicted a “major step back” for Kentucky, citing what he called “questionable coaching decisions” and a “lack of elite talent depth.”
“The Wildcats had a decent run, but I don’t see them staying competitive in the SEC East,” Finebaum stated bluntly. “This offseason hasn’t inspired confidence. I’d be surprised if they even hit .500 this year.”
His comments quickly ignited backlash from Kentucky fans, players, and even coaching staff. Head Coach Mark Stoops responded in a press conference, saying, “We’re not in the business of listening to offseason noise. Our focus is on the field, not hot takes.”
Several players took to social media to defend their team, with senior linebacker Trevin Wallace posting, “Talk all you want. We’ll let our play do the talking this fall.”
This isn’t the first time Finebaum has drawn ire from Wildcat Nation, but the tension seems to be at an all-time high with this latest jab. Whether his prediction proves accurate or not, one thing is clear: the Kentucky Wildcats now have extra motivation heading into the 2025 season.
