Outrage is sweeping through Big Blue Nation after standout Kentucky guard Otega Oweh was shockingly left off the NCAA’s 2025 Preseason Wooden Award Watchlist, sparking fierce backlash from fans, analysts, and even fellow players.
Oweh, who averaged 18.7 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 3.1 assists last season, played a pivotal role in Kentucky’s late-season surge and was widely expected to be among the top names in college basketball heading into the new campaign. His exclusion from the prestigious list has been labeled “disrespectful,” “political,” and “flat-out ridiculous” across social media.
“This is disrespectful on every level,” one fan posted. “You can’t tell me there are 25 better players than Oweh. The NCAA is asleep at the wheel again.”
Even Kentucky head coach Mark Pope couldn’t hide his disappointment. “Otega is one of the hardest-working, most impactful players in the country,” Pope said. “If he’s not on your radar, you’re not watching the right basketball.”
Oweh himself responded with grace, posting a cryptic message on X (formerly Twitter):
> “Fuel. Add it to the fire. 🧯🚫”
While the NCAA has yet to comment, insiders suggest the snub may be tied to Kentucky’s roster overhaul and questions about how Oweh will fit into a revamped offense — doubts that many say are unfounded.
As the season approaches, one thing is clear: Oweh is taking names, and this latest slight may just push him to another level.
Stay tuned — the revenge tour might just be underway.
