Following Liverpool’s long-awaited comeback, Kaide Gordon is dealt a new injury blow.

After making his long-awaited comeback to action earlier this month, Liverpool’s young winger Kaide Gordon has now suffered another setback. However, his most recent issue has nothing to do with the pelvic issue brought on by his physical development, which kept the youngster from playing for more than 18 months.

In the final period of the under-21s’ 4-1 Premier League 2 loss to Middlesbrough at home on September 3, Gordon played his first competitive game since February 2022. The winger, who will turn 19 in a month, rolled his ankle as a result and will now likely be out for a few weeks.

Even though the problem is not thought to be serious, it is particularly unfortunate timing given that Gordon has only recently begun to regain match sharpness following his extended time out. The teen, who joined Liverpool from Derby County in February 2021 in a deal that could ultimately be worth £3 million, made his senior debut at the age of 16 in the League Cup victory at Norwich City in September 2021.

After scoring on his FA Cup debut against Shrewsbury Town in January 2022, Gordon went on to become the second-youngest scorer in the club’s history. The following week, he made his Premier League debut off the bench against Brentford, and the following month, he became the youngest Liverpool player to start a major semi-final when he played in the League Cup second leg victory at Arsenal.

Harvey Blair and Oakley Cannonier, the former of whom hasn’t played since last season, are both still recovering from injuries, leaving Liverpool’s U21 team without a number of important attacking players.
