Until they relocated to Kirkby and sold it, this served as Liverpool Football Club’s training facility.
The location was recently repurchased by the club, and it serves as their women’s teams’ training facility. Liverpool has announced a new agreement to rename their historic training facility, Melwood.
With the addition of the naming rights to the women’s team’s new home at Melwood, Liverpool FC and AXA have further developed their partnership, which they began in 2018.
The world-class facility will be officially known as the “AXA Melwood Training Centre,” with AXA aligning their commitment to both the men’s and women’s teams, with the AXA Training Centre serving as the home of the men’s team starting in 2020.
Prior to their season opener against Arsenal on Sunday, October 1, Matt Beard’s team moved into their new residence earlier this month as they continued their preseason preparations.
The storied site, steeped in LFC history, will start a new chapter for the women’s team and girls’ academy, enabling them to continue competing at the highest level, attracting, developing, and keeping the best talent in the sport.
All players now have the opportunity to train and perform at their highest levels, which reinforces the Club’s ongoing dedication to growing the women’s team and girls’ academy. It will be possible to train both on and off the field at the AXA Melwood Training Center, which will also serve as a venue for press conferences, team meetings, player rehabilitation, and office space for management and support staff.
The top-notch training facility will also be used for community outreach programs run by the award-winning LFC Foundation and for the Fowler Education and Football Academy (FEFA), which will educate young people. Ben Latty, commercial director for Liverpool FC, reacted to the news with the following statement: “It’s fantastic to see our partnership with AXA expand to show their commitment to both the men’s team and the women’s team, which aligns with the ‘One Club’ approach we have here at LFC. “We are thrilled that AXA has seized this chance to deepen their relationship with the club, and it comes at an exciting time for our women’s team in their fantastic new home at the AXA Melwood Training Centre.
