After losing to the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round of last year’s playoffs, the Memphis Grizzlies are now shopping former Lakers players. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported Thursday that the Grizzlies have signed veteran guard Shaquille Harrison through the 10-day hardship waiver.
Memphis has struggled in the league recently, with five players ruled out over the next two weeks due to injuries. The team is also expected to sign former Timberwolves guard Jaylen Nowell to another opt-out contract.Lakers fans will remember Harrison, the 30-year-old combo guard from last year’s team. He played for their G League affiliate and played eight playoff games for the Lakers in the 2023 Western Conference Finals (but all of them came in garbage time). Harrison’s career averages are 5.3 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.7 assists over six seasons with seven NBA teams.
The 3-11 Grizzlies are currently in dire need of reinforcements with injuries to Marcus Smart (sprained foot), Luke Kennard (knee contusion), Xavier Tillman (knee rehab) and Jake Larabia (eye abrasion). Steven Adams (knee surgery) and Brandon Clarke (Achilles tendon repair) have both missed the year, while Ja Morant continues to serve a 25-game suspension. Memphis had success with their last trade, and now they’re hoping Harrison and/or Nowell can give them similar production.
