Liverpool warned not to expect “tourists” as LASK hunt leaders with narrow win

Liverpool return to Europa League action on Thursday and will be in full force after a comfortable 1-0 win over the visitors LASK lifted them into the top three. If two things happen this weekend, the Reds can confirm their position as group winners.

First they have to beat LASK and Toulouse must not beat Union SG.Liverpool are top of Group E while LASK are bottom after taking three points from Union SG last time out. They returned to Anfield on Saturday afternoon with a 1-0 win after Thomas Sageder’s side beat bottom-placed WSG Tirol.

An hour and a half after Liverpool were held to a draw against Manchester City in the Austrian Bundesliga, captain Robert Zulk scored the only goal of the game – his 10th of the season. Seider used a similar formation to the one against the Reds in September, and after scoring in the 14th minute of the first half, the 3-4-2-1 formation barely won.Sky Sport Austria described the performance as a “light but successful dress rehearsal” for the trip to Anfield with the six players who faced Liverpool earlier this season. They experienced snowy and unexpected conditions in Merseyside and LASK did not want to be seen as tourists on their trip.”We don’t want to go there as tourists,” says manager Sageder. “It’s just a football game, there’s always a chance to win.

We want to ask everything from them.”The Austrian side expect left-back Rene Renner and midfielder Sasha Horvath to be fit after missing the weekend through illness. Since meeting Liverpool last September, they have had a poor run of results with 7 wins, 4 losses and 3 draws.
