The 2022/23 season has largely been one of absence for Liverpool, but they still turned water into wine and gave us the best Sunday of our lives in March.
Over the years, United’s presence has only added to our misery as we have sought to sweep everything in sight. Childhoods were destroyed and jobs became untenable as Sir Alex Ferguson fulfilled his famous promise to ‘dethrone’ Liverpool, effectively making the first two decades of the Premier League era his own.
Winning the title in 2019/20 was the only way United could fully atone for the pain they caused their neighbors in Manchester. However, we had to celebrate this victory in our living rooms and dream of what might have happened if Liverpool’s best team had come together for another season.How can we right these wrongs and be completely saved from the years our M62 friends have tortured us? This time the bookmakers were much stronger and rightly so, Erik Ten Haag’s side stumbled down the highway with a confidence they have lacked in recent seasons.Liverpool, on the other hand, went into the game 10 points behind their bitter rivals and were hoping to finish in the top four for the seventh consecutive time.
In a relatively close and tense game, there were chances at both ends, with Bruno Fernandes having a header narrowly wide and Casemiro having his finish ruled out for offside.Then came the madhouse. Cody Gakpo scored his third goal for the club at Anfield Road as Raphael Varane came in and out before Andy fired the ball into the far corner.
What happened next was both mysterious and miraculous. There were too many laughs in the second half as United sank to depths never before seen in a football stadium, let alone Anfield.

Trophies are, and ultimately always will be, the standard by which great teams are judged. But in general, football is as much about chasing that shiny thing as it is about making memories. Apart from lifting the silverware, the weather was beautiful this afternoon and the fact that it happened at a time when Liverpool seemed to have lost their minds made it all the more magical.
Beating an opponent only gives them six months of bragging rights, but a demolition like the 5-0 win at Old Trafford less than 17 months later can and will never be taken away from them. . Be funny. Liverpool won 7-0. Things may change and Manchester United may return to the heights they reached under Ferguson, but football will not stop the smiles on their faces when they reach that goal again.
We must never forget them. I hope one day there will be a song about poor Scouser Tommy going out on the Kop in the same way Ian Rush did when he scored four goals at Goodison Park.
