Eddie Howe reveals extent of Newcastle injuries after latest major setback

Eddie Howe’s injury is a major concern ahead of Liverpool’s New Year trip as Newcastle suffered a sixth defeat in their last seven games on Tuesday.

After last season’s performance and qualification for the Champions League, Howe and Newcastle will have to go the hard way this time around. An increased workload and poor summer recruitment have now ruled the Magpies out of Europe, while persistent injuries have led to a significant drop in form.

They lost 3-1 at home to Nottingham Forest on Boxing Day, their third defeat in a row and sixth defeat in their last seven games. They have won just five of their last 16 games in all competitions, lost nine of them and go to Anfield on Sunday in ninth place in the Premier League.Nine senior players are injured or suspended and Howe admitted none of them will return after the Forest defeat.

I don’t think anyone will be back in the next few days.” Howe told reporters Tuesday.”I’m delighted to have Joelinton back today. Sean Longstaff or Lewis Miley could replace Joelinton in midfield, Callum Wilson could replace Miguel Almiron in attack and Tino Libramento and Lewis Hall could be considered at full-back.Kieran Trippier has captained the team regularly in Lascelles’ absence this season, but while the right-back has been in sensational form recently, left-back Dan Byrne has struggled against Forest.
