The Packers had an unexpectedly good season in Aaron Rodgers’ first year. Another Aaron sees a very bright future for the team. “I think what I’m doing here is special,” Aaron Jones told Packers.com, via NFL.com. “You can feel it. You can see it. Chemistry, communication, the standards we set. I think the standards we’ve set will give us an idea of what our expectations will be when we come back next year. Our standards are high.
We’ve shown this year that we can do it, we can show it every game, we can put it together, so there’s no reason why we can’t reach that standard every day. I think we are in danger. We’re going to be special.”He’s right, especially when you look at the team’s growth, especially when associate professor Jordan Love and the younger players work well together.”This is a special team, a special group of people that we’ve put together,” Jones said. “We exceeded expectations. Nobody thought we’d make it to the playoffs, let alone the second round. I think that was a big building block for us.”He is right. But here is a problem. Jones is entering the final year of a non-guaranteed contract worth $11.1 million in base salary. Remember last summer’s revenge story? Jones will be one of the team’s veterans at risk of being replaced by someone younger, cheaper and more valuable.
Still, the 29-year-old Jones appears to have plenty of gas in 2023 despite rushing for 656 yards in 11 regular-season games. “I feel like I’ve aged like wine,” Jones said. “It just keeps getting better as time goes on. “I feel like I just came back to life.”it’s fine. But we know markets don’t work that way. Aging age, higher wages and declining production can turn even the best wines into vinegar.
