Former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Chris Steele has signed with the San Antonio Brahams of the United Football League, the team announced.

Steele was originally added to the April 2022 NFL Draft shortly after coming out of USC and served as the team’s depth anchor in the offseason, training camp and preseason.

The 6-foot-4, 190-pound Steele, 21, had a strong camp and passed veteran Justin Lane on the depth chart, but was one of the final cuts when the Steelers reached to the list of 53 people. However, the team did not return him to the practice squad, and Steele instead decided to go to Miami and join the Dolphins. But he won’t be there for long.Steele is a 6-foot-1, 190-pound defensive back who entered the draft as a redshirt junior and spent his senior season at USC.

He played his high school ball at John Bosco High School and is from Bellflower, California. He declared for the draft before his senior season. Although his senior season ultimately fell short of the high expectations he had for himself, he still had a relatively good season and was named a 2021 All-Pac-12 and second-team All-Pac-12 honoree Phil Steele. He also made the 2020 All-Pac-12 Second Team and the Phil Steele All-Pac-12 Second Team as a sophomore last season. Steele had two corners last year and three total during his college career.

He has 94 career tackles, including 35 as a redshirt freshman in 2019. He previously redshirted at Florida before transferring to USC in 2018.This article first appeared on Steelers Now and is republished with permission.
