Arthur Smith says the Steelers will go with Kenny Pickett at QB.

Arthur Smith says the Steelers will go with Kenny Pickett at QB.New Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith has reportedly said the team will play Kenny Pickett at quarterback next season.

During his first interview after joining the Steelers, Smith mentioned Pickett while discussing what his role would be in his new home. “Kenny and I need to build a relationship,” Smith told Missy Matthews, according to Pittsburgh’s official website. “And the play is very important between the caller and the quarterback. It is clear that there is a square in the middle of the white road, it is clear that trust is built every day and that it goes both ways. I have to have Kenny’s trust and vice versa. We’re going to build this offense and everything we want and we want Kenny to do that and take over this offense. While Smith’s comments don’t necessarily guarantee that Pickett will be the starting quarterback in 2024, they do indicate that he is currently the favorite to take over the job.

Pickett is entering his third NFL season and isn’t very confident. He made 12 starts last year, throwing for 2,070 yards, six touchdowns and four interceptions while completing 62 percent of his passes and posting an 81.4 passer rating. The 25-year-old suffered an ankle injury that required surgery in the second half of the season but is expected to return at the end of the season. Instead, Pickett was selected in favor of Mason Rudolph, who led the Steelers to the playoffs. It didn’t look good for Pickett, leading to speculation that Pittsburgh will be looking for a new quarterback this offseason.

Again, it looks like the Steelers will upgrade their center in the coming months. Maybe he could go after Russell Wilson. Maybe he could play for Justin Fields. Additionally, you can move up to four defenders in the draft at any time. That being said, Arthur Smith now appears to be loyal to Kenny Pickett. If so, you might not have much choice these days.
