Jerod Mayo and Alex Van Pelt found help on the offensive line as they continued to build their offensive coaching staff.

The Patriots are hiring Cleveland Browns offensive line coach Scott Peters, according to Aaron Wilson of KPRC2 in Houston.

His exact title has not been announced.Peters coached in Cleveland the past four years, helping lead the offense for legendary coach Bill Callahan. Van Pelt served as the team’s offensive coordinator during his tenure.In his first season in Cleveland, right tackle Jack Conklin earned first-team AP All-Pro honors, while guards Joel Bitonio and Wyatt Teller earned second-team honors.

The Browns also ranked first in 2021 after finishing third in the league in scoring with a 5.09 rating, the highest average by a Browns team since 1966.Before Peters’ coaching career began in Cleveland, he appeared at guard and center and single-handedly ran the offense. After being drafted in the fourth round in 2002, Peters played seven NFL seasons for five different franchises.

The 45-year-old athlete is also well-versed in martial arts, winning the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu World Championship twice. Peters compared the technique to Joe Kim, a longtime Patriots skill development coach who specializes in using tackle techniques to coach offensive linemen.
