The Cleveland Browns are facing some tough decisions regarding their quarterback situation in the coming months, with no clear path yet defined. Reports suggest Deshaun Watson is expected to return in 2025 and will likely compete for the starting role, but the team is determined to provide strong competition for him.
Several options are on the table for Cleveland. One possibility is re-signing Jameis Winston, who has performed well in his starts for the team this season and could potentially secure the starting job full-time. Another route involves drafting a quarterback, as the Browns are likely to secure a high first-round pick and may use it to select a potential long-term franchise player. Alternatively, the team could explore the free-agent market, where intriguing names like Justin Fields may be available and fit within their budget.
However, CBS Sports analyst Aditi Kinkhabwala has advised caution when it comes to Winston’s situation. She emphasized the importance of not rushing to offer him a new contract, stating:
> “Why be in a rush right now? This is not one of those young guys you want to lock up before he suddenly gets more expensive. Let’s see how the rest of the season goes.”
This perspective highlights the risk of making hasty decisions amid the growing hype surrounding Winston. So far this season, Winston has started four games, completing 62.2% of his passes for 1,266 yards, seven touchdowns, and four interceptions. He has also contributed 46 rushing yards and a touchdown. While many believe Winston is currently a better option than Watson, the Browns must approach this decision carefully to avoid further setbacks at the quarterback position.
Ultimately, the Browns cannot afford another mistake. Taking their time to evaluate all options is essential for the team’s future.
