Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed in a press conference Monday that star offensive tackle Jedrick Wills Jr. is set to leave the team in free agency, putting the Browns’ season aspirations in serious doubt.
Wills, a critical piece of Cleveland’s offensive line since being drafted in the first round in 2020, has been instrumental in protecting quarterback Deshaun Watson and creating lanes for running backs like Nick Chubb. His impending departure leaves a significant void on the offensive line that the Browns will struggle to fill in time for next season.
“Jedrick has been a cornerstone of our offense, and while we respect his decision, it’s a tough pill to swallow,” Stefanski said. “We’ll work hard this offseason to address the gap, but replacing a player of his caliber is never easy.”
The news has sent shockwaves through the Browns fanbase, with many voicing concerns about the team’s ability to remain competitive in the highly contested AFC North. Analysts have also highlighted how this departure could impact the Browns’ ability to execute their run-heavy offense, especially with Chubb recovering from injury.
Wills has reportedly drawn interest from several teams in need of elite offensive linemen, and early reports suggest he may sign a lucrative multi-year deal in the coming weeks. As for the Browns, they may now prioritize drafting or trading for a top-tier offensive tackle to salvage their playoff hopes.
With free agency just around the corner, the Browns face a critical offseason as they look to keep their championship window open.
