Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski has announced that rookie quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson will start in the upcoming Week 16 game against the Cincinnati Bengals. This decision follows the team’s 3-11 record and the season-ending Achilles injury to starting quarterback Deshaun Watson.
Thompson-Robinson, a third-round pick from UCLA, previously saw limited action earlier in the season. He now has the opportunity to lead the Browns’ offense, which has struggled throughout the year. Stefanski’s decision to start Thompson-Robinson comes after benching veteran quarterback Jameis Winston, who had an inconsistent tenure as the starter.
Despite the challenges this season, the Browns organization remains committed to Watson, Stefanski, and general manager Andrew Berry for the 2025 season. Watson, who signed a fully guaranteed $230 million contract, faces a significant cap hit in the upcoming seasons, making it financially unfeasible for the team to release him.
As the Browns prepare for their matchup against the Bengals, Stefanski expressed confidence in Thompson-Robinson’s abilities and emphasized the importance of evaluating talent for the future. The team aims to finish the season on a positive note, despite being eliminated from playoff contention.
