Jameis Winston shared his thoughts on his NFL future after being benched by the Cleveland Browns in favor of second-year quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson. The move marked the end of an eventful stint as Cleveland’s starter, one that saw both high points and struggles, but always kept the Browns’ offense interesting—something that hadn’t been consistent under Deshaun Watson.
When asked if he had done enough to prove himself as a starting quarterback, Winston expressed confidence but acknowledged room for improvement.
“I definitely feel like I showed that I’m capable of being a starter in this league,” Winston said. “There are some things I need to fix to be the player I want to be, but it was a fun ride. What matters most now is that the team’s journey continues, and I’ll do my part to help lead them to success.”
Winston’s strengths as a deep-ball passer were evident during his time with the Browns, but his tendency to commit turnovers remains a significant issue. While he may have shown flashes of potential, it’s likely Winston will assume a backup role in 2025 unless he finds a team willing to give him another shot as a starter.
When asked to summarize his experience in Cleveland, Winston looked back on his journey with pride. From starting as the QB3 to eventually leading the team, Winston emphasized his growth and the positivity he brought to the locker room.
“I know I’m capable of bringing fun and energy while shifting the culture of an organization,” Winston explained. “What I need to focus on is eliminating the lows and negatives from my game. That’s something I can control and continue to improve. Outside of that, I’ll keep supporting my teammates, staying ready, and enjoying the process.”
While Winston’s time as a starter for the Browns may be over, his optimism and leadership made a lasting impact on the team. Even as he prepares for an uncertain future, he remains focused on growth and contributing wherever he lands next.
