Steelers Cut Ties with Key Player Following Shocking Early Morning Arrest

The Pittsburgh Steelers have released linebacker Tariq Carpenter following his arrest on December 17, 2023, in Pittsburgh. Carpenter was charged with simple assault after allegedly throwing a woman to the ground and holding her against her will.

Carpenter, who joined the Steelers’ practice squad in September 2023 after a stint with the Green Bay Packers, appeared in three games for Pittsburgh, recording two tackles. Following his arrest, the Steelers promptly terminated his contract.

In October 2024, the NFL suspended Carpenter for six games due to this incident. He later signed with the San Antonio Brahmas of the United Football League (UFL) on September 26, 2024.

The Steelers have a history of addressing off-field issues involving their players. In July 2024, cornerback Cameron Sutton was suspended for eight games by the NFL following a domestic violence arrest in March of the same year.

The Steelers’ next game is scheduled against the Cincinnati Bengals on December 29, 2024. The team will need to adjust their defensive lineup in light of Carpenter’s release.
