The Unexpected Hero Who Could Redefine the Browns in 2025

Despite a disappointing 2024 season, the Cleveland Browns may have found a valuable offensive contributor in running back Jerome Ford.

Ford, a fifth-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, had a slow start to his career. In his rookie season, he saw limited playing time but gained a bigger role in 2023 after Nick Chubb suffered a season-ending injury. Sharing duties with Kareem Hunt, Ford ended the 2023 season with 813 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 204 carries.

This year, Ford has taken a significant step forward. In 13 games, he has recorded a career-best 543 rushing yards and three touchdowns on just 98 carries, showcasing his explosive playmaking ability. His performances against the Bengals and Chiefs, where he tallied 176 rushing yards on just 18 attempts, highlight his potential.

Ford has also become a threat in the passing game, with 17 receptions for 128 yards over the past seven games. His versatility makes him a dynamic asset for the Browns’ offense.

Looking ahead to 2025, Ford’s success could hinge on Cleveland’s approach to building their backfield. With Nick Chubb’s future uncertain, the Browns have an opportunity to add depth through the 2025 NFL Draft. One potential target is Kansas running back Devin Neal, who delivered an impressive 1,266 yards and 16 touchdowns in 2024 and is projected to be a Day 2-3 pick.

To secure the future of their ground game, Browns general manager Andrew Berry will need to pair Ford with a young, talented running back, ensuring Cleveland’s offense is well-positioned for the years to come.
