*The Detroit Lions are thriving in the 2024 season, boasting a 14-2 record under head coach Dan Campbell. Heading into Week 18, the Lions will face the Minnesota Vikings on *Sunday Night Football* in a showdown for the NFC North title and the No. 1 seed in the conference. The winner will earn a first-round playoff bye and home-field advantage throughout the postseason.
Detroit’s success is even more impressive given the injuries to key players, including star edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson. The 2022 No. 2 overall pick suffered a fractured tibia and fibula during a Week 6 victory over the Dallas Cowboys. Despite the setback, Hutchinson remains optimistic about a potential return if the Lions reach the Super Bowl.
“I’m on track for my goal of returning for the Super Bowl,” Hutchinson told *Good Morning Football* on December 17. “I keep telling the boys, ‘Just get there, and I’ll be back.'”
In Hutchinson’s absence, the Lions’ pass rush has remained effective, thanks in part to the midseason acquisition of Za’Darius Smith. However, general manager Brad Holmes may look to further bolster the defensive line this offseason.
According to Dylan Sports Talk of the *Wright Way Network*, the Lions could aim high and attempt a blockbuster trade for Dallas Cowboys superstar edge rusher Micah Parsons. Pairing Parsons with Hutchinson would create one of the most fearsome pass-rushing duos in NFL history and elevate Detroit’s defense to elite status.
While this move would be a bold statement of the Lions’ “win-now” mentality, it is highly unlikely to materialize. Parsons, who has recorded 13 or more sacks in each of his first three seasons and 9.5 sacks in 2024, is seeking a lucrative extension. Combined with Hutchinson’s future contract demands, it would be nearly impossible for the Lions to afford both players under the salary cap.
Still, the idea of Parsons joining the Lions is tantalizing. A partnership between him and Hutchinson, who earned Pro Bowl honors in 2023 and was a Defensive Player of the Year contender before his injury, would leave opposing quarterbacks scrambling.
Although a trade for Parsons is financially improbable, it underscores the Lions’ aggressive approach to roster building under Dan Campbell. Whether through the draft, trades, or free agency, Detroit remains focused on winning it all, and fans can expect more bold moves from the team in the future.
