Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson suffered a torn ACL along with additional damage during the team’s Week 18 game, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com. The non-contact injury ends Watson’s season and raises questions about his availability for next year. While some players recover in time for Week 1 after late-season ACL injuries, Watson’s additional damage may lead to a longer recovery, potentially starting the 2025 season on the reserve/PUP list.
Watson had been dealing with a knee issue leading up to the game and was questionable to play after missing two practices. Despite limited participation in Friday’s session, he suited up in a game where Green Bay rested some starters while competing for the NFC’s No. 6 seed. Quarterback Jordan Love avoided major injury, but losing Watson leaves a significant gap in the Packers’ offense heading into the playoffs. It also casts doubt on Watson’s readiness for his contract year.
Injuries have been a recurring issue for Watson throughout his career. The third-year wideout, who previously sought help for chronic hamstring problems, missed eight games last season but managed to play 15 this year. Despite limited production—29 catches for 620 yards—his 21.4 yards per reception showcased his role as Green Bay’s top deep threat. His absence will make the Packers’ playoff matchup against Philadelphia more challenging.
The Packers still have depth at receiver, with Jayden Reed, Romeo Doubs, Dontayvion Wicks, and Tucker Kraft all healthy and contributing to one of the NFL’s most balanced offenses. Three of these players surpassed 600 receiving yards this season. However, Watson’s ability to stretch defenses and create big plays remains a unique asset.
As Watson faces his most serious injury yet, his long-term future with the Packers has become uncertain.
