Kentucky Wildcats power forward Andrew Carr was absent during the recent game against the Vanderbilt Commodores due to a lingering back injury. Although Carr had managed to play through the discomfort in prior games, it was evident that his condition worsened, forcing him to sit out against Vanderbilt. This marks a critical moment for the Wildcats, as Carr has been a pivotal figure for the team.
Signs of trouble were apparent during Kentucky’s game against Alabama, where Carr’s limited mobility allowed Grant Nelson to dominate, highlighting the impact of his injury. After the Vanderbilt game, Coach Pope addressed Carr’s condition, suggesting the possibility of a prolonged absence. The team now faces the challenge of filling the void left by their star forward.
If Carr is sidelined for an extended period, several players will need to rise to the occasion. Among them, Ansley Almonor, who stepped into the starting lineup during Carr’s absence, will bear the bulk of the responsibility. Almonor’s ability to anchor the team in Carr’s stead will be crucial.
Two other players saw increased minutes against Vanderbilt: Collin Chandler and Trent Noah. Chandler, however, had a disappointing outing, playing just three minutes and committing a costly turnover. It appears unlikely that he will see significantly more playing time, even with Carr out.
Trent Noah, on the other hand, made a notable impression during his time on the court. Over 12 minutes, Noah contributed two points, grabbed four rebounds—three of them offensive—and recorded a steal. His hustle and effort on the glass were a bright spot for Kentucky during an otherwise challenging game. While Almonor is expected to continue as the starting forward, Noah has shown enough potential to earn more minutes off the bench, even when Carr returns to the lineup.
In the tough loss to Vanderbilt, Noah demonstrated that he is capable of stepping up and has a promising future with the program. If he continues to deliver strong performances, he could become a key piece in Kentucky’s rotation moving forward. For now, the Wildcats must rely on players like Almonor and Noah to help steady the team as they navigate this challenging stretch without Andrew Carr.
