Kentucky head coach Mark Pope and his staff remain active in recruiting, even in the middle of the season. One of their key targets is Nate Ament, a highly ranked five-star prospect. Ament, who recently narrowed down his list of potential schools, still has Kentucky in contention alongside programs like BYU, Duke, Georgetown, Kansas State, Louisville, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Alabama, and Texas.
His most recent visit was to Tennessee, where he watched the Volunteers take on Kentucky. However, the Wildcats’ win over Tennessee may have dampened the mood for the home team while strengthening Kentucky’s pitch to Ament. Following the victory, Pope made his recruiting intentions clear. According to KSR’s Jacob Polacheck, Pope took the opportunity to call out to Ament after the postgame handshake line, urging him with remarks like, “Let’s go, Nate” and “C’mon, Nate.”
Ament is known for his elite offensive skills, something Tennessee visibly lacked during their matchup against Kentucky. The Wildcats’ performance in Knoxville may have left a strong impression on him, especially considering he has yet to take an official visit to Lexington.
With Kentucky still in the running for Ament’s commitment, their recent win over Tennessee could serve as a significant recruiting advantage, particularly if it helps convince him to schedule an official visit to the Wildcats’ campus.
