The football community is mourning the loss of Ben Christman, a former Kentucky Wildcats and Ohio State Buckeyes offensive lineman who had recently transferred to UNLV. Christman was found dead in his off-campus apartment near UNLV, the school confirmed on Tuesday. He was only 21 years old. At this time, the cause of death has not been disclosed.
Christman’s Journey Through College Football
A highly regarded four-star recruit in the class of 2021, Christman began his college career at Ohio State. He spent two seasons with the Buckeyes before deciding to enter the transfer portal following the 2022 season. Seeking more playing time and a fresh opportunity, he later committed to the University of Kentucky.
While at Kentucky, Christman endured significant adversity, including a season-ending knee injury that sidelined him for the entire 2023 season. However, he made a strong comeback and was able to contribute in every game of the 2024 season. He primarily played on special teams, recording 44 total snaps, while also seeing limited action on offense**, logging 23 snaps at right guard.
After the conclusion of the 2024 season, Christman once again entered the transfer portal. He ultimately chose UNLV, where he planned to play under the leadership of new head coach Dan Mullen.
A Heartbreaking Loss
Christman’s passing has left his former teammates, coaches, and fans in shock. His dedication and perseverance on and off the field made him a respected figure in the locker room.
At this time, details regarding his death remain unclear. The UNLV community, along with Kentucky and Ohio State, has expressed their condolences to his family, friends, and teammates.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Christman’s loved ones during this difficult time.
