*Mark Pope Provides Key Update on Kerr Kriisa’s Medical Redshirt Eligibility
Kentucky head coach Mark Pope shared an important update regarding senior guard Kerr Kriisa’s status, revealing that the veteran player could potentially receive a medical redshirt for the next season. If approved, this would grant Kriisa an additional year of eligibility, giving him the opportunity to return to the Wildcats and make a full recovery before resuming his collegiate career.
Kriisa, a fifth-year senior, has been sidelined since Kentucky’s victory over Gonzaga in Seattle on December 7. According to Pope, the guard meets the NCAA’s criteria for a medical redshirt, which includes playing in fewer than 30% of the season’s games and not participating beyond the midpoint of the season.
“Kerr could get a medical redshirt because he meets the qualifications,” Pope explained. “The two qualifications are less than 30 percent of the games played—he’s barely under 30 percent—and not played past the mid-point. So that is a possibility.”
Kriisa’s Absence and Its Impact on Kentucky
Kriisa’s injury came at a difficult time for the Wildcats, as the team was still working to develop chemistry with a roster full of new players. Before being sidelined, the 6-foot-2 guard had played in nine games, averaging 4.4 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game.
