Auburn Secures Commitment from High-Scoring JUCO Guard Abdul Bashir
Auburn has officially landed one of the top junior college basketball players in the nation, as Abdul Bashir announced his commitment to the Tigers. The 6-foot-7 sophomore combo guard from Casper College in Wyoming chose Auburn over a strong list of offers, including Texas A&M, Nebraska, Arizona State, UCF, Kansas State, and Seton Hall, among others.
A native of Omaha, Nebraska, Bashir has been dominating the JUCO ranks this season. He is currently averaging an impressive 28.2 points per game, making him the second-leading scorer in the country at the junior college level. His ability to put up high numbers attracted attention from multiple programs, but ultimately, Auburn secured his commitment.
### **Why Bashir Chose Auburn**
In an interview with On3, Bashir explained the reasons behind his decision to commit to Auburn. He emphasized the strong connection he felt with head coach Bruce Pearl and his coaching staff, noting that they made him feel like a priority throughout the recruiting process.
“I chose Auburn because Coach Pearl and his staff made me feel like a priority, and they have a great track record with players like me,” Bashir said. “They are amazing at developing talent, and that played a big role in my decision.”
When asked about what made him trust Pearl and his staff, Bashir pointed to their genuine nature and dedication to player development.
“I trust Coach Pearl and his staff because they are very genuine and are in this for the right reasons,” he explained. “They truly want to teach young men as much as they can about basketball while also helping them grow as individuals and learn from their mistakes.”
### **What Auburn is Getting in Abdul Bashir**
Bashir described himself as a highly versatile offensive player who can contribute in multiple ways. While his strongest skill is his shooting ability, he also prides himself on being able to create opportunities for both himself and his teammates.
“I’m a scorer. My most valuable trait is probably my shooting, but I can also create off the dribble for myself and my teammates,” he said. “I can play anywhere from the 1 to the 3 position.”
### **Message to Auburn Fans**
Bashir is eager to join the Auburn program and has a message for Tigers fans. He promised to give his all every time he steps on the court and to bring his best effort to the team.
“I’m going to give the Auburn fans everything I have in the tank,” Bashir stated. “I’m going to play my hardest every time I step on the floor. War Eagle!”
With his scoring ability and versatility, Bashir is expected to be a significant addition to Auburn’s roster. His commitment further strengthens the Tigers’ backcourt and adds another dynamic offensive threat to Bruce Pearl’s squad.
