Kentucky Wildcats head coach Mark Pope delivered a much-needed update on star guard Reed Sheppard following his recent injury. In a press conference earlier today, Pope confirmed that Sheppard underwent successful surgery and is now on the road to recovery.
“The surgery went as well as we could have hoped,” Pope said. “Reed is in great spirits, and we expect him to make a full recovery. Our medical team is optimistic about his rehab process, and we’re looking forward to getting him back on the court when he’s ready.”
Sheppard, who suffered a knee injury in last week’s game against Tennessee, has been a key player for the Wildcats this season, averaging 17.3 points, 5.2 assists, and 4.7 rebounds per game. His absence will be a significant loss for the team as they head into the final stretch of the season.
Teammates and fans have flooded social media with messages of support for the young star. “We’ve got your back, Reed!” tweeted forward Tre Mitchell. “Can’t wait to see you back stronger than ever.”
While there is no official timetable for Sheppard’s return, Pope reassured fans that the team will prioritize his long-term health. “We’re not going to rush him back. We want to make sure he’s 100% before stepping on the court again.”
The Wildcats will now look to DJ Wagner and Antonio Reeves to step up in Sheppard’s absence as they prepare for their upcoming matchup against Florida.
Stay tuned for further updates on Sheppard’s recovery and the Wildcats’ season.
