Olympic skiing legend Lindsay Vonn has opened up about a harrowing injury that nearly cost her life. In a recent interview, the 39-year-old athlete shared details of a terrifying accident that left her battling for survival.
Vonn, known for her fearless approach to alpine skiing, revealed that the incident occurred during a high-altitude training session. “It was one of the scariest moments of my life,” she admitted. “I thought I was invincible, but this reminded me how fragile we all are.”
Although she has faced numerous injuries throughout her career, Vonn described this one as the most dangerous. She explained how she lost control on a steep slope, crashing into an icy section that sent her tumbling down at high speed. “I remember hitting my head and everything going dark for a moment,” she said.
Rescue teams acted quickly, and Vonn was airlifted to a nearby hospital, where doctors treated her for multiple fractures and a severe concussion. “If help hadn’t arrived so quickly, I don’t know if I’d be here today,” she confessed.
Despite the traumatic experience, Vonn remains determined. “I’ve always been a fighter. This injury won’t define me—it’s just another challenge to overcome.”
Fans and fellow athletes have flooded social media with messages of support, praising her resilience and wishing her a speedy recovery.
Vonn, who retired from competitive skiing in 2019, continues to inspire with her strength, both on and off the slopes.
