Just few months after puncture wound injury Michaela shiffrin shows why she is the GOAT

In a remarkable display of resilience and determination, Mikaela Shiffrin has once again solidified her status as the greatest alpine skier of all time. Just months after a harrowing crash that resulted in a severe abdominal puncture wound, Shiffrin achieved her 100th World Cup victory in the slalom event at Sestriere, Italy, on February 23, 2025.

The accident occurred on November 30, 2024, during a giant slalom race at Killington, Vermont. While leading after her first run, Shiffrin lost control near the finish line, crashing into multiple gates and sustaining a deep puncture wound to her right abdomen. The injury was severe enough to require surgery and led to significant physical and psychological challenges during her recovery.

Shiffrin’s rehabilitation process was both arduous and inspiring. She faced not only the physical demands of healing but also battled post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) stemming from the crash. Despite these obstacles, she returned to competition on January 30, 2025, finishing tenth in a slalom event in Courchevel, France. Her comeback continued at the World Championships in Saalbach, Austria, where she, alongside teammate Breezy Johnson, secured gold in the inaugural team combined event, marking her 15th world championship medal and tying the record set by German skier Christl Cranz in the 1930s.

Achieving her 100th World Cup win is a testament to Shiffrin’s unparalleled dedication and skill. Reflecting on this milestone, she expressed gratitude for the support of her team and the lessons learned throughout her recovery journey. Beyond her personal achievements, Shiffrin has partnered with the Share Winter Foundation to raise $100,000, aiming to introduce 200 children to skiing and snowboarding, further demonstrating her commitment to the sport and its future generations.

Mikaela Shiffrin’s extraordinary comeback and continued success underscore her legacy as one of the most inspiring and dominant athletes in alpine skiing history.
