Kentucky Wildcats Show Interest in Transfers Mackenzie Mgbako and Elijah Moore
While the Kentucky Wildcats are focused on preparing for their upcoming matchup against the Tennessee Volunteers this Friday in Indianapolis, their coaching staff remains active in the transfer portal, reaching out to potential new additions.
Recent reports indicate that Kentucky has expanded its list of contacted players, adding two more names to their recruiting radar. One of these players will be familiar to Big Blue Nation.
According to Jacob Polacheck of KSR, Kentucky has expressed interest in Indiana transfer forward Mackenzie Mgbako and Syracuse transfer guard Elijah Moore.
Mackenzie Mgbako: A Potential Fit for Kentucky?
Mgbako, a highly regarded former 5-star recruit and McDonald’s All-American, originally committed to Duke before switching to Indiana, where he spent the last two seasons. Kentucky had previously shown interest in him during his initial recruitment process.
A New Jersey native, Mgbako put together a solid season for the Hoosiers, averaging 12.2 points per game while shooting 43.7% from the field and 33% from three-point range. He also contributed 4.6 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game.
While this appears to be early contact, Mgbako’s skill set suggests he could fill a role similar to Otega Oweh, should Oweh declare for the NBA Draft. His situation will be worth monitoring in the coming days and weeks.
Elijah Moore: A Promising Young Guard
The Wildcats have also reached out to Syracuse transfer guard Elijah Moore, a former 4-star recruit and top-60 player in the 2024 class.
A Bronx native, Moore showed potential during his freshman season at Syracuse, averaging 5.2 points per game while shooting 39% from the field and 31.5% from beyond the arc.
Despite modest numbers, Moore has the upside to develop into a key contributor in the right system. Whether that system will be in Lexington remains uncertain, but he is now on Kentucky’s recruiting watch list.
Kentucky Continues to Cast a Wide Net
It’s clear that Kentucky’s coaching staff is leaving no stone unturned this offseason, actively pursuing talented players entering the transfer portal. With Mgbako and Moore now added to their list of potential targets, it will be interesting to see how the Wildcats’ roster takes shape in the coming weeks.
