Former Skiing No. 1 Suggests what Mikaela  Shiffrin’s major career problem is

In a recent development, former skiing champion Lindsey Vonn has expressed that Mikaela Shiffrin’s primary challenge lies in her mental health rather than her coaching situation. This perspective follows Shiffrin’s withdrawal from the women’s giant slalom at the World Alpine Skiing Championships, citing post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) stemming from a crash in November 2024.

Shiffrin, 29, sustained a severe abdominal injury during a World Cup race in Killington, Vermont, which required surgery and a two-month recovery period. Despite her return to competition and achieving her 100th World Cup victory in slalom at Sestriere, Italy, she continues to grapple with psychological hurdles.

The American skier also experienced an unexpected split with her longtime coach, Mike Day, during the middle of the world championships. Shiffrin informed Day of her intention to take a new direction with her staff at the end of the season, leading to his immediate departure.

Despite these challenges, Shiffrin remains committed to her career, planning to compete in upcoming events and focusing on her mental well-being. She has also partnered with the Share Winter Foundation to raise $100,000 for programs aimed at helping 200 children learn skiing and snowboarding.
